The Coastal Express Museum

Om museet - Kontakt oss

The museum offers a historical tour of the various fields of operation found on board, from the mail cabin, via loading and unloading, to safety at the sea and navigation, providing you with fascinating information about the Coastal Express vassels. You will encounter the darker side too, the shipwrecks and loss of life, things that have also been an integral part of the history of the Coastal Express vessels for over 100 years.

Here at the Museum, you will also see professions that are no longer necessary on board, like pilot and telegraphist. Up until more recent times these were vital functions on each ship. Today, everything is controlled from the bridge, but here at the Coastal Express Museum, you can still see them all.

The Coastal Express vessels is a miniature society. Romance blossoms on board, bonds of friendship are formed, children are born. The vessels have been the undisputed means of communication between small and larger coastal communities for over 100 years.

The Coastal Express Museum also proudly presents the past generation of Coastal Express vessels. The MS "Finnmarken", now stands on dry land adjacent to the Museum, and you can also take a tour aboard this toiler of the 1950's.

The slide show gives you an insight into the layman's view of daily life along the coast, throughout the four seasons.

Learn about the fascinating history of the Coastal Express vessels with the help of sound, colour, exhibits, text and images. Welcome!!
